my cat loves to purch himself on my dresser, and i am wondering if there are any tricks to keeping him off the furniture? Tried the water gun, but he thinks it's a game.
Well, these come from someone who hasn't had much success with this task, whitness the leg on my coffee table. . Having said that, there are a number of things that may work. Putting change in a soda can, and throwing it not to hit the cat, but to distract him/her is one method. Maybe using a spray like bitter apple. Also, there is a product called a scat mat that depending on the size of the dresser you might try. This delivers a mild shock to the cat's paws when he/she is on it. I don't know if you need to be there to push a button or not. These are things I've heard about, but I haven't much success with our own cats. Let's see what other report.
Good luck,
Lou
Try adding just a bit of vinegar to the water in the spray bottle, it usually deteurs them more then plain water. Bitter apple is more for a taste aversion, it doens't do much unless you can spray it in their mouth -- it's more-so intended for spraying on objects you don't want your animals to chew on. I could be wrong, but I thought the scat mat worked by static electricity, so there was no need to press a button or anything. You can try shaking a can of coins, or throwing it in the general direction of the cat, not *at* the cat, as was already well suggested.
walk over and smack it in the head?
Just repeated punishment. *shrug. My cats never thought the water was a game. we used like a windex bottle full of water.
I also used the violant technique
violence seems to only insite him a bit more. He's the type of cat that will slap you with his paws after he's been punished. lol go figure
